Hi All,

I kindly request you all to go thru this page first.
Then, go ahead to see the prospectus.
Would appreciate that.

This page contains certain common queries & responses that might help.
It would really avoid you calling the Organizing team often.
And saves time for both the Player & the Organizer.

From an Organizer's perspective - my two cents ..

When a tournament is announced, the Organizer first sends a Prospectus that contain the details necessary. No prospectus may contain all the details that all Players can expect to know as some are first-timers. There are different types of event formats, but the most common ones are Classical & Rapid - both can be FIDE & non-FIDE rated. The requirements pertaining to those are to be well-understood by the Players - as many keeps questioning even on the day before the tmt.

First of all, many do not read the prospectus completely as a Prospectus is bound to have all the details - more the number of pages, more details are furnished. So, if a Player can read and understand what all is mentioned there then it eliminated the possibitilty of questioning. Organizer will be totally responsible for making sure all amenities are provided to the Players, Arbiters & the Spectators - so, he/she will be totally busy especially in the last few days with their focus on that and hence would probably not in a position to answer all the queries shoot at them. Hence, many Organizers provide some more contacts for more support and the one can at the maximum refrain from connecting to the Organizer at the last moment. Other contact should be able to provide the information desired.

Some of the queries that often asked are ..

01. Where is the location & how to reach there, nearest metro, etc.?

Can be found using google. Prefer metro, if available as it saves time.
Ask only if the venue is too interior & can't easily reachable.

02. Any food or accommodation provided?

If not mentioned in prospectus, it isn't there.
Accommodation details are mostly provided for more than 1-day events.

03. Any food places nearby or stalls available?

Will be provided in the prospectus, else contact the support team.
If in malls (except Virginia Mall), no issues; eateries will be there.

04. Queries on round schedule.

Mostly provided for FIDE rated tournaments & some non-RAPID tournaments too.
Hence attending the Players' meet is considered a must for any changes.

05. Can spot entries be accepted?

Mostly NOT accepted in Karnataka until & unless mentioned explicitly in prospectus.
It is in general not preferred to have the event start on time as mentioned.

06. Concessions on more no of participants.

Some Organizers won't prefer doing that.
What about people who have already registered with no discounts?

07. Forgot Early Bird Offer, pls. excuse.

Can't be helped as one can't discriminate who followed the rules.
Think of those who had registered by the said date.

08. Is it mandatory to write score-sheet?

Yes, it is mandatory only for Classical FIDE rated tournaments.
Rapid tournaments having less time won't require score-sheet writing.

09. Is it mandatory to register for KSCA?

Yes, it is mandatory for Players from (residing in) KARNATAKA.
Every State incorporates that rule to get their Players registered.

10. Is it mandatory to have AICF registration?

Yes, for any FIDE rated tournaments conducted in INDIA.
Players should not have their FED as FIDE, but to have it as AICF.

11. Can unrated player take part in FIDE rated tournaments?

Yes, an unrated Player can take part in any tournament format.
No exceptions here.

12. Why extra fee is charge in some form of registration?

Yes, they have to pay for the GATEWAY which Players have to bear.
In some case, one doesn't have to. For instance, Circle-Chess registration.

13. Saw the prospectus only today? Shall I register? Yesterday was last.

Please refrain from requesting on that.
One always have a next chance or other tournaments.

14. Can't find the details on chess-results?

Kindly give some time (a day/two) on that; it isn't instantaneous; will take time.
One can be concerned when the dates are closer to the D-day.

15. Details are wrong on chess-results. What should I do?

Inform (always message) the Organizer with all the correction/s required.
Players name, age, category, mode of registration, etc.

16. KSCA registration expects FIDE/AICF ID while registering for KSCA ID.

If don't have, just put NA (not applicable) and proceed ahead to get the ID.
This part confuses everyone & KSCA can look into this matter.

17. Can I take part in State selection tournaments?

Only if you belong to that State.
AICF ID should've have registered with that State, else get it changed.

18. Why the playing schedule gets changed?

In general it won't get changed, but it's at the discretion of the Chief Arbiter.
Lesser the number of Players, less rounds than scheduled or vice-versa.

19. Do we get participation Certificates?

It makes sense only for a FIDE rated event; might be detailed in the prospectus.
Can request the Organizer to have a online Certificate (e-Certificate).

20. When do we get the prize amount transferred?

These days one uses UPI for money transfer.
Hence would take a week's time as said in the prospectus.

21. Will there be any age-category in FIDE rated event?

No, not at all; kids might get to play with elders.
Age-category is considered only for the Players finishing on the podium.

22. Do we need to bring our Chess-sets / Clocks?

No, personal Chess sets / Clocks won't be accepted.
Organizer will provide the Chess sets & Clocks for every Player.

23. What is a bye? Child is not getting to play this round.

A BYE is a free point given to a Player.
It is given when the total no of Players is odd & one Player doesn't find an opponent.

24. Should we need to play all rounds?

That is Player's choice as it is not a knock-out format system.
It is always advisable to play all the rounds irrespective of the results.

25. How are the placings calculated?

That is based on the tie-breaker system.
It is really complex to understand; one need to go through the FIDE rule book.

Last, but not the least - rating related queries from first-timers or non-rated players. Many get confused on how to get rating. They can go through the FIDE rule-book. There are certain constraints to be fulfilled which are clearly detailed on how to get a FIDE rating.

And note that the AICF and the KSCA registration are valid only for the financial year. That means, from 1st April to 31st March of next year. So, a player taking part should make sure that their AICF & KSCA ID are valid for the tournament that year. And their is a special case too. Let us say that a tournament spans from March end till April 1st week or so, then what? A Player might think that his IDs are valid for that year, but the tournament spanning over the next financial year makes one force to get registered again for that new financial year. Hope, it is understood clearly.

Registration for KSCA can be done at

https://karnatakachess.com/player-registration

Registration for AICF can be done at

https://prs.aicf.in/new-register (for NEW Players)

https://prs.aicf.in/nenew-membership?renew-membership=true (for existing Players)

So, kindly make it a habit to read the prospectus thoroughly till the last page. That helps one from questioning for every single issue and makes the Organizing team breath some air and focus on their work to have a wonderful tournament. Hope, it is understood and my words are not mistaken here. What I have come across all these days, I felt like sharing it with the responses. Correct me if I am wrong anywhere and also feel free to add some more queries (with or without answers) that help others.

Respects to Chess fraternity ..!!

🙏🙏
